What to do in Oslo?

A brief introduction to some of the most popular tourist attractions in Oslo.

Oslo city hall.

The Oslo city hall is beautifully decorated. Entrance is free, but opening hours are limited. Ask the tourist office for the opening hours during your stay.

The Vigerland Sculpture park

This park is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Norway and you can enter the park at no cost.

The new Oslo Opera and ballet

Have a free walk on the roof of the new Oslo Opera and Ballet.

Holmenkollen ski jump arena

You don't have to pay anything to visit the Holmenkollen ski jump arena from the outside. However, if you want to go inside the museum or try the ski jump simulator, you'll have to pay.

Free museums

Some museums are free to enter, but this may vary throughout the year. Ask the local tourist office for advice. In this picture you can see the new Astrup Fearnly Museum of contemporary art. This particular museum is not free to enter, but you can enjoy the beautiful architecture from the outside and go inside if you like modern art.

Our personal tips (things they won’t tell you in the tourist office):

• A walk along the Akerselva River and park during the day is really nice and relaxing and will show you a different side of Oslo.

• If you wanna try some traditional Norwegian food the restaurant Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri is the place to go. The address is Grensen 1 (next to the main street). They offer traditional Norwegian food at affordable prices. Web: http://www.stortorvets-gjestgiveri.no/en

• Grünerløkka (just a short walk from the flats) is a trendy area with lots of restaurants, pubs, bars and parks. A walk in this area is really nice.

• Not many tourists know there is a bar at the top of Oslo Plaza/Radisson Blue (the tallest building in Oslo, you can clearly see it from the apartment). You’ll normally have to buy something (coffe/beer/drink) to sit down and enjoy the view, but it’s definitely worth a visit!

• The Icebar (Adress: Kristian IV’s gate 12) is the only permanent bar in Norway made entirely of ice and is kept at minus 5 degrees at all time. Everything inside is made out of crystal clear ice. The ICEBAR OSLO is operated in 45 minute time slots and you will be given a designer thermal cape with a hood to keep you warm during your visit.

• Bogstadveien (near Majorstua T-station) is the one of the best shopping area in Oslo. Oslo City (near the main station) is the biggest shopping centre in the city centre and is usually very crowded during the weekend.
